Weed rather be doing something else
The issue of replacing the garden furniture came to the fore again the weekend before last when the bench outside the conservatory gave way as Jon sat down. So, it probably shouldn’t come as a surprise that when we went into B&Q on Friday for two bags of compost, we emerged with two bags of compost, a table and four chairs, at a bargain price, naturally. Our new dining suite was set up by Friday afternoon – the old picnic table wasn’t dismantled as such; it voluntarily disintegrated. Saturday’s lunch was alfresco and we also had a barbeque during the evening so we managed to use it before Sunday’s thunderstorms (good job we invested in a cover).
Monday was probably the best day weather wise since Thursday so I weeded, fed and watered the vegetable garden. At least I hope they were weeds. It’s a bit difficult to tell with small seedlings, and weeding is definitely not my forte. My efforts weren’t helped by Sami’s insistence on removing everything I put into the trug either, so it all became a bit of a battle. She likes weeding but she would rather play ‘fetch’ in the field so, when she wasn’t emptying the trug, she kept presenting me with a half-chewed ball, “conveniently” placed right in my path. Megan just ran riot as usual. The sun was starting to go down behind the trees when I eventually finished, but it’s now done, although every time I look down on the patch I seem to spot a weed I missed. I suppose I’ll just have to avert my eyes until Jon’s home at the weekend and does the job properly. Weeding definitely falls into the same category as changing ink cartridges i.e. a dirty job for the boys.
