The Redundant Gardener

I’ve been an extremely reluctant gardener, in fact the redundant gardener would be more appropriate. It’s all the fault of the low front from the east, or something or other, so the weather has been awful. Every time the weather has been relatively reasonable – i.e. almost dry – we’ve been taking advantage of it and going out. It’s also ‘carnival time’ in this part of the world, every week one of the villages has a festival so we’ve been going along to watch; if you don’t support them you lose them. Meanwhile, the weeds have been busy colonising the garden, but to be quite honest everything just looks green anyway.

I did go out before to top up the bird table with peanuts and seed, but someone got there before me …

He looks a bit grumpy but he knew I was just about to chuck him off!

Speaking of Minto, there was a daft story in circulation re. sniffer dogs having to wear slippers if they had to search a house belonging to a Muslim. Some wag (no pun intended) suggested they should use sniffer cats instead. Well, we may be ahead of the game! Megan has started to learn how to search rooms as part of her obedience training. (‘Megan’ and ‘obedience’ in the same sentence? That’s got to be a first.) Minto hates to be left out of anything so he lines up with Megan and Sami – all ‘Hup!” – to sniff the toy before it is hidden in another room. Admittedly, he does cheat by following you, and isn’t very thorough at searching yet but we could have found a niche in the market. If the haul involves a consignment of catnip we could be onto a winner.
